International Humanitarian Action Training (IHAT)

Have you ever wondered if aid work is for you?

In times of crisis, aid workers provide vital healthcare, water, shelter and other assistance to those in need. Many Australian professionals are well positioned to help, but first need to increase their understanding of the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be safe and effective in a challenging environment.

The Australian Red Cross International Humanitarian Action Training (IHAT) is an inspiring and informative three-day course, designed to teach you what it takes to be an effective aid worker.

Courses are facilitated by experienced practitioners and technical experts from both Red Cross and other humanitarian organisations. Participants come from a range of professional backgrounds. After the course, you will be better prepared to apply for and succeed at volunteer or paid roles with both Australian and overseas agencies.

The IHAT course is offered several times per year and in most capital cities around Australia. Courses are non-residential so participants arrange their own travel and accommodation as required. We may be also able to offer private or tailored courses to suit your organisation's needs.

For more information visit our website at, email us at, or phone 03 9345 1800 and ask for the international training team.
Participants come from a range of professional backgrounds but there are no specific entry requirements.
