  • Young Chef Eyes a Bright Future Combining Food and Fitness

    Author: HealthTimes

Like many young Australians, Alex Rahme’s body began to change in high school and she soon discovered that she had many allergies. A naturopath suggested a high protein diet and regular weight training to revitalise her body’s strength. There was a dramatic improvement and Alex has prioritised healthy eating and fitness ever since.

Alex is in the process of setting up a business to combine her two main loves: food and fitness. Her way into this career has not been a clear path, but perhaps that’s part of why Alex is so excited about her new business venture.

Following high school, Alex was unable to study Nutrition due to its high ATAR of 96 - Alex earned a respectable 84 but it wasn’t enough. While wading through the first year of an International Studies degree, Alex decided the public university system wasn’t for her and promptly deferred her place.

While at university, Alex worked at a local cafe where a chef noticed her potential. He began to teach here one-on-one and in every shift her passion grew. She cooked simple meals; breakfast, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, salads and pizzas.

“I fell in love with the energy of the kitchen and making people happy, providing them with beautiful food.”

Alex soon discovered William Blue and enrolled in a Commercial Cookery course.

Now 23 years-old, Alex has a wealth of professional hospitality and cooking experience at the highest level. She has decided to use this with her love of fitness to help others enjoy healthy lifestyles.

“Health and nutrition are really important to me and I’m passionate about teaching others how to achieve a healthy lifestyle.”

The idea to combine healthy eating and fitness is not a new one. Alex was inspired by research suggesting that children today may live shorter lives than their parents due to child obesity. This research has recently been brought into the public eye through campaigns by Michelle Obama and Jamie Oliver, among others.

Alex is currently pursuing further study in nutrition.
