October 2015 Survey Results

The October 2015 HISS survey of over 600 Australian health professionals has indicated an overall improvement in the satisfaction of health professionals.  The HISS Survey index showed an improvement of 3% relative to the October 2014 survey result.   The results showed the public sector improved by 6%, while the private sector showed a decline in satisfaction by 3%.

Other key findings from the survey:
• Amongst private sector respondents, levels of work satisfaction and perceived access to career progression opportunities showed a 6% and 8% decline respectively.

FEATURED JOBS


• A majority of respondents across public and private sectors indicated that they do not have sufficient time to perform their duties and paperwork to a satisfactory level.
• Stress levels were rated Moderate to High amongst a vast majority of respondents
• Responses in relation to the standard of service and patient care remained largely unchanged with most respondents agreeing that their facility does provide an excellent standard of care.

What is the HISS Index?
The HISS index is calculated by adding the average response scores to the questions detailed below, and then converting them to an index score (100 basis points) that illustrates the trend response since the survey started in October 2014.

Survey questions:
Survey respondents were asked to respond to their level of satisfaction with regard to the following questions:
  • Are you satisfied that your job is rewarding and professionally stimulating?
  • Are you satisfied that you have opportunities for career progression?
  • Are you satisfied that you have access to education and professional development opportunities?
Survey respondents were asked to state their level of agreement with the following statement:
  • I have enough time to perform my duties and paper work to an acceptable standard
Survey respondents were asked to rate their level of job stress, in response to the following questions:
  • How would you rate your level of job stress
Survey respondents were asked to rate the morale in their workplace by completing the statement:
  • Morale amongst your current colleagues is …
Survey respondents were asked to evaluate the standard of service provided by their health facility by stating their level of agreement with the following statement:
  • This facility provides an excellent standard of service and patient care
