Why UTS: Nursing, Midwifery and Health?

Professional relevance

We have taken a leadership role in shaping nursing, midwifery and health services education and proactively respond to changes in health care industry needs.

Our dedication to advancing the professional status and practice of nursing, midwifery and health is reflected in the comprehensive range of courses we offer. As we work closely with the health care professions, including industry, government and professional bodies, you can be sure that your degree is based on the highest professional standards.

Choose from courses in individual clinical specialisations or an innovative research degree such as a PhD or the world’s first Doctor of Midwifery – groundbreaking programs setting new professional benchmarks for the industry.

Cutting-edge research

With more Clinical Professors than any other university in Australia, we have a proven reputation for conducting clinically relevant, innovative research that contributes to the development of practice.
Each of our industry-sponsored Professors has an impressive international and national profile. Their areas of excellence are aged and extended care nursing, child and family health, child and adolescent health, critical care nursing, mental health nursing, midwifery and women’s health nursing.

We have also established five centres which are focal points for research, consultancy and continuing professional education, including the Centre for Midwifery, Child and Family Health and the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Nursing, Midwifery & Health Development. The Centre for Health Services Management and the Centre for Health Economics, Research and Evaluation are both joint initiatives with UTS:Business, and the Centre for Health Communication is run in conjunction with UTS:Arts and Social Sciences.

Industry partnerships

Committed to collaboration with health care providers, our industry partners include major metropolitan health services, private institutions and NSW Health.

Many of our academic staff members hold senior positions on industry boards and associations such as the Council of Deans of Nursing and Midwifery (Australia & New Zealand), Australian College of Midwives, Australian College of Health Service Executives and the Nurses and Midwives Board of New South Wales.

Further study options

We know that you want flexibility in your postgraduate education. Our graduate certificates articulate into graduate diplomas, which then articulate into masters programs, allowing you to keep your options open and take a step-by-step approach to furthering your career.

Endless career opportunities

Our graduates are highly respected throughout the health industry. This, and the shortage of nurses and midwives around the world, means that your postgraduate degree can be a passport to career opportunities anywhere.

Whatever direction you choose – whether you’re committed to a hospital-based clinical career, looking for a position in health care management or education or you want to develop your own research – there’s a postgraduate qualification from UTS to get you there.
