About the Organisation

Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service (Wurli) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation delivering primary and clinical health care services to the Aboriginal people in Katherine and surrounding communities.

Wurli operates 5 clinics in and around Katherine, providing a range of service including acute and general care; chronic disease; women and children’s health; and men’s health. The organisation prides itself on delivering services to the community in a style and manner that make clients feel welcome and comfortable.

About the Opportunity

Wurli now has multiple full-time opportunities for Registered Aboriginal Health Workers to join their team. These roles will be based at one of five Katherine based clinics, with the expectation that you spend your time working between the clinics as required.

Aboriginal Health Workers are responsible for delivering safe, high-quality clinical services, patient care, health promotion and education as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Depending on the clinic and / or program you are assigned to, Registered Aboriginal Health Workers may also assess and treat clients, deliver specific health care programs and/or specialise in a particular health care service.

Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Providing health service activities, guided by CARPA standard treatment manual and applicable legislation and regulations;
  • Providing clinical services including (but not limited to) immunisation; eye and ear heath care; diabetes health care and sexual health;
  • Contributing to the effective management of patient care plan systems, including participating in patient care conferences, managing patient follow-up procedure; and
  • Explaining procedures and treatment to clients to gain cooperation and understanding, and allowing clients to make informed decisions about their health management.

Importantly, RAHW’s bring cultural authority into the organisation and play a pivotal role in providing cultural brokerage between patients and non Indigenous staff. You will provide culturally safe and appropriate advice and support, with the overall goal to contribute to better health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
