Accounts Officer

Our clinic within St Vincent's Hospital, Darlinghurst is looking for an enthusiastic Patient Accounts Officer. You will be responsible for the management of patient accounts, including the creation and issue of patient estimates, generation of invoices, receipting and debt collection.

This role provides support to Clinicians by ensuring patients are fully informed of the billing system and the funding mechanisms of Medicare and the relevant private health funds. The position also assists qualified patients to understand and access affordable treatment with the use of the GenesisCare EasyPay service. This will involve discussions with the patients around the fee estimates and establishing payment plans. The face to face patient aspect wilequate to around 40% of the role and the other 60% will entail a more accounts payable role; not patient facing.

What you’ll do:

  • Management of Patient Account Enquiries
  • Effectively communicate the treatment fee structure and attend to patient account enquiries in a friendly and timely manner
  • Clear understanding of the patient registration and billing systems. The position will be the first point of contact for patient account enquiries, received either over the phone or face –to- face.
  • Clear understanding of the funding mechanisms including Medicare, the Medicare safety net and private health fund reimbursements
  • Ensuring patients have informed financial consent prior to treatment commencement. (This is particularly important with high end specialist procedures, such as Stereotactic Radiosurgery)
  • Understanding the relationship between the patient’s treatment and fee structure
  • Effectively communicating the components of an invoice including: the fee structure, insurer reimbursements and patient out-of-pocket expenses

    Patient Billings
  • Understand the billing processes and focus on diligently managing the accuracy of patient accounts.
  • Ensure patient invoices are generated and distributed on the nominated day. This includes ensuring:
  • Patient accounts reflect all charges, payments and adjustments
  • Perform daily banking

    Account Management
  • Ensure debtors are managed effectively and in line with the Debtors Management policy & procedure
  • Perform a full function accounts receivable role including receipting payments, processing adjustments, refunds and write-offs; processing authorised fee changes
  • Perform account reconciliations as an aid to debt management
  • Maintain and control reminder systems including overdue letters
  • Manage approved payment plans
  • Liaise with the debt collection agency to manage outstanding accounts
  • Contact stakeholders including patients, DVA and/ or Medicare regarding outstanding payments

    Who you are:
  • Demonstrated understanding of and an ability to provide excellent customer service in a healthcare environment.
  • Medical accounts processing skills including knowledge of Medicare, DVA and private health funds.
  • Demonstrated ability in using clinical administration systems and Microsoft Office software particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external business stakeholders
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Proven experience to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Flexible approach to work
  • Diploma of Medical Administration or equivalent experience
