About the Role

As part of the senior leadership team the Associate Nurse Unit Manager will independently manage their allocated clinic, in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team. The Associate Nurse Unit Manager will provide support to the St Thomas outpatient team.



  • Take responsibility for the daily operational management of the unit, nursing staff and patients through accountability as the senior nurse on shift.
  • Provide clinical leadership, practical support, mentoring and development of the nursing workforce.
  • Lead and contribute to the planning and development of the unit and actively participate in team based quality and service improvement activities.


  • Undertake comprehensive health screening, assessment, treatment, management and discharge planning of allocated patients, ensuring the nursing team do the same.
  • Provide high quality care that is safe, effective, timely, clinically appropriate and in accordance to professional nursing standards and best practice, ensuring the nursing team do the same.
  • Provide education to patients regarding medication, self-help and coping strategies and symptom management.

Classifications for this position will range from classification range YW11 – YW12 ($100,703- $104,088 per annum).

You have experience working in an acute tertiary or subacute ward. You possess attributes including resilience, integrity and the ability to lead a team while remaining professional at all times. You demonstrate a high level of moral values, interpersonal skills and strive to deliver consistency in the care you provide.

You will also have

  • Current APHRA nursing registration.
  • Substantial experiences as a Registered Nurse or Associate Nurse Unit Manager
  • Extensive skills, knowledge and experience in the acute, sub-acute, and/or primary health care settings as a Registered Nurse or associate Nurse Unit Manager
  • Ability to lead a team, develop strong working relationships with the Multidisciplinary team and associated partnerships

About the Department

St Vincent's Correctional Health Service (SVCHS) at Port Phillip Prison (PPP) provides primary health, secondary medical health and primary mental health care to prisoners at Port Phillip Prison, Laverton. Port Phillip Prison is a maximum security male prison accommodating approximately 1107 inmates and is situated 20 km West of Melbourne. St. Thomas provides a wide range of outpatient services, including medical, dental, physiotherapy, OT, OSTP, Optometry, radiology, podiatry, general nurse clinics, primary mental health nurse clinics.
