About the Unit

The Palliative care in-patient unit at St Vincent’s On The Park, East Melbourne, is a 16 bed unit specialising in the care of patients with life limiting illness who may also have multiple medical co-morbidities, admitted mainly for either end of life care or symptoms management, and occasional respite. Care and discharge planning is provided by an inter-disciplinary team.

About the Role
Registered Nurses with Palliative Care experience are invited to apply for the permanent part-time Associate Nurse Unit Manager position in our friendly, patient-centred and team focused service.

This position is based at St Vincent’s On The Park in East Melbourne initially, but will move to the purpose built new development, set against a picturesque backdrop of the Yarra river and bush surrounds in Kew towards September this year.

Classifications for this position will range from YW11 – YW12 ($97,770.40 - $ 101, 056.80 per annum).

Duties

  • Lead and direct nursing staff to ensure a high standard of patient care is delivered in accordance with the Values and health care Philosophy of the Sisters of Charity
  • Support the NUM with the daily running of the ward including bed management, staff management and attending relevant meetings
  • Act as a clinical role model by providing the highest standard of direct patient care
  • Implement and support organisational change as directed by the Nurse Unit Manager
  • Participate in quality activities, allocated portfolio and coordinates National Accreditation Standards
  • Provide clinical direction and acts as a resource person to all nursing staff

Skills, Qualification and Experience

  • Degree in general nursing which meets the registration requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation agency (AHPRA)
  • Advanced clinical skills with current experience in Palliative Care
  • Leadership qualities with proven ability to direct and encourage a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands
  • Demonstrated resource Management, both human and operational
  • Experience in conflict management/negotiations
  • Experience in managing a clinical unit, ward or department
