Role Purpose:
Older Peoples Mental Health Services (OPMHS) is a skilled speciality within Northern Sydney Local Health District Mental Health Drug and Alcohol (NSLHD MHDA). OPMH services include community teams, Behaviour Assessment & Management Services (BAMS), Older Peoples Mental Health Acute Inpatient Units, Pathways to Community Living Initiative Team (PCLI) and a non-acute inpatient services. 
The CNC3 for Clinical Practice Development position is a MHDA district wide position that provides consultancy services to the OPMHS sector teams and associated key partners of the area health service, including Adult Mental Health Inpatient Units (MHIPU’s), as required. 
The CNC3 position will take carriage by initiating and leading practice development across the NSLHD OPMH services by providing a range of services including but not limited to:
The strategic planning and development of the NSLHD OPMHS workforce and education.

Expert professional leadership and consultancy across the NSLHD OPMH services. Liaison with key partners of the NSLHD OPMHS including aged care services such as the Aged Care and Assessment Teams (ACAT),  Regional Assessment Service (RAS), Sydney Home Nursing Service, HammondCare, Drug and Alcohol Services , NSW Police and Non-Government Organisations.

Supporting the OPMHS Program Manager with the NSQHS 2nd Ed accreditation process including translation, planning, preparation and ensuring continuous documentation of evidence required.
The provision of leadership and the coordination of  programs that develop strategies to promote the OPMHS Acute Inpatient Unit (AIU) and Community Models of Care, OPMHS Service Plan. 

What you'll be doing:
The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is an expert nurse who will provide leadership, advice and recommendations on all aspects of nursing and consults on matters relating to the safe and appropriate use of nursing practices.

The CNC will formulate and implement policy, guide practice development, and engage in education and research activities. The CNC is responsible for the provision of clinical supervision to nursing staff and acts as a role model, providing nursing care on a regular basis.
Employees must abide by the NSW Health Code of Conduct. Criminal record checks will be undertaken on successful applicants and applicants for positions designated as Category A will be required to obtain required vaccinations prior to commencing employment. 
Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check.

Selection Criteria:

A Registered Nurse who has a minimum of 7 years full time post graduate experience, with at least 5 years full time equivalent experience in the speciality field. In addition the applicant must have an approved post graduate qualification relevant to the speciality and hold a Masters (pertaining to speciality field) or can demonstrate evidence of significant progress in completing a Masters in the relevant speciality field.

Demonstrated clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a member of a multidisciplinary team and independently. Demonstrated skills and experience in delivering education and training. Knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to evidence-based practice and person / relationship - centred care.

Advanced high level interpersonal and communication skills including advocacy and negotiation with key partners. Experience in undertaking research and/or clinical practice improvement in OPMHS clinical services including assisting the organisation in preparation for the accreditation cycle.

Current NSW Driver’s Licence.
