Clinical Nurse Manager


CareFlight is an aeromedical charity whose mission is to save lives, speed recovery and serve the community.  Established in 1986, CareFlight provides the highest standard of pre-hospital care to our patients.  CareFlight’s clinical teams use helicopters, turbo-props and jet aircraft to care for and transfer patients.
Our doctors, paramedics and nurses are specially trained in pre-hospital and transport medicine.  They care for severely injured people who need emergency treatment at the scene of an accident. They also look after seriously ill people who need to be moved between hospitals or specialist care.
In April 2018, CareFlight expanded its provision of patient transport services in NSW.  CareFlight now operate a fleet of three air ambulances from Bankstown Airport, in Sydney, to transport patients between regional and rural areas of NSW and major tertiary hospitals.  To support these air transfers, CareFlight also operate a fleet of fully equipped patient transport vehicles staffed by a driver and registered nurse to move patients between hospitals and our aircraft.
The role
We currently have an opportunity for a full-time Clinical Nurse Manager to join CareFlight’s patient transport service team, based at Bankstown.  This role will be responsible for leading the clinical teams and ensuring a high level of care is provided to each and every patient transferred.
Key responsibilities include:
  • undertaking clinical shifts ensuring coverage and clinical currency;
  • coordinating rosters for nursing teams;
  • leadership / management of clinical teams;
  • management of operational budgets;
  • medical equipment management;
  • developing, implementing and evaluating policies, procedures, standards and models related to nursing practice;
  • supporting and mentoring nursing staff to ensure effective and skilled clinical services are delivered;
  • facilitating effective communication with staff, agencies, patients and the general public;
  • ensuring staff have access to appropriate training as required; and
  • conducting quality improvement audits and projects. 

About you
To be successful in this role you are currently registered with AHPRA as a ‘registered nurse’ and have the following:
  • Minimum five years’ experience working in a Critical Care setting such as Emergency, Intensive Care, Coronary Care or High Dependency Unit.
  • Relevant clinical experience in apatient transfer setting
  • Current ALS / APLS certification
  • Previous nursing leadership experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to implement best practice policies / procedures
  • Proven ability to manage resources effectively
  • Sound knowledge of continuous quality improvement principles
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Current Working With Children clearance or the ability to obtain
