Clinical Nurse Specialist | Correctional Health

About the Role
The OSTP Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Grade 2 undertaking the AOD course, will participate and contribute to the development and delivery of a high quality care to those patients on a Opioid Substitution Therapy (OSTP) at Port Phillip Prison. The nurse will demonstrate clinical expertise in assisting with the management of patients with substance use issues, assessment, induction and monitoring of patients on Substitution therapy. Initiate discharge planning and facilitate community liaison with GP’s and pharmacies.

You will also:

  • Review systems and processes and implement improvements
  • Ensure updates to nursing policies and procedures that reflect current standards of practice
  • Identify issues and assists in the implementation of changes resulting from continuous quality improvement activities
  • Assist in the achievement of unit Quality Plan in relation to performance measures
  • Demonstrate a responsibility in ensuring changes to work practice are measured and monitored for improved patient care
  • Understand the EQUIP Accreditation concepts
  • Participate in all required meetings for the Service
  • Participate in service development


Classifications for this position will be YS9 ($93'553.2 base salary per annum; pro rata for Part Time work).

Your Contribution
You will be a passionate Nurse with demonstrated background in working with people with substance abuse issues. Your strong communication skills will assist in supporting, encouraging and motivating a multidisciplinary team. Previous experience in correctional health would be advantageous.

You will also have:

  • Degree in Nursing which meets the registration requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Cert IV in Alcohol and Other Drug Work or undertaking appropriate qualification
  • Current National criminal history check, or willing to obtain

About St Vincent's Correctional Health Service (SVCHS)

St Vincent's Correctional Health Service (SVCHS) at Port Phillip Prison (PPP) provides primary health and primary mental health and secondary medical health care to prisoners at Port Phillip Prison, Laverton. Port Phillip Prison is a maximum security male prison accommodating approximately 1107 inmates and is situated 20 km West of Melbourne. SVCHS works collaboratively with Forensic Mental Health Services (FMHS) who provides secondary outpatient and inpatient care for those prisoners with a mental illness.
