Consultant Nephrologist

The Role:
We are looking for a Consultant Nephrologist/General Physician, who is suitably experienced to apply, you will be joining an established team.

The Nephrology team comprises of 4 nephrologists, 3 renal Advanced trainees and 1 Basic Trainee registrars, who are well supported by highly skilled nursing and allied health team. You will be given a unique opportunity in which to practice nephrology amidst a socially disadvantaged population. There are many opportunities for service development, medical education and research projects at both the clinical and laboratory level.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. The Nephrologist will provide specialist Nephrology services (0.5FTE) and General Medicine (0.5FTE) within the Division of Medicine and to regional hospitals in the Northern Territory undertaking specialist medical care and supervision.
2. Provide care and advice on the management of Renal patients, including admitting, managing, and discharging patients under the supervision of the Renal Specialist/Director of Renal Services.
3. Provide, with other members of the Renal Department, routine and emergency after hours care and consultancy service on a roster basis.
4. Conduct regular inpatient ward rounds incorporating teaching to a multi-disciplinary team and provide an opinion/advice to referring medical practitioners if requested.
5. Promote and participate in recognised principles of clinical practice and case management.
6. Participate in continuous medical education, professional development, peer review, research, teaching, quality improvement activities and clinical audits as appropriate.
7. Provide specialist reports as appropriate.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.The Hospital:
Main Hospital has 360 beds, servicing a population of over 250,000, it is a diverse population including urban, regional, and remote centres, it is a teaching hospital and is co-located with the Private Hospital. A wide range of specialist services include Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics, Intensive Care and Coronary Care, acute medical and surgical, Rehabilitation, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Mental Health.

Remuneration Package $211,880 - $257,588

Skills & Qualifications required:
1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
2. Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or be eligible for Fellowship and have appropriate clinical experience.
3. High level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interact positively as a team member in a cross-cultural work environment.
4. An interest in and a commitment to improving Indigenous health.
5. Evidence of commitment to; continuing education, teaching, research and quality assurance activities.
6. An ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
