Consultant Obs and Gynae – permanent 78 hours per fortnight.

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly-motivated Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join the Women's and Children’s Services in Victoria.

The Consultant works in partnership with the Clinical Director, Consultants and Service Manager for the efficient and effective management of the Women’s Health Service, to ensure clinical leadership, risk minimization and the continual monitoring and quality improvement of patient care in all areas of Collaborative Maternity Care Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The current Birth Rate is approximately 1,250 per year with a considerable number of high-risk pregnancies. The hospital boasts a Special Care Nursery and is equipped to manage newborns from 32 weeks gestation, and an Adult Intensive Care facility.
Antenatal and Gynaecology clinics are conducted at the Hospital, as well as outreach clinics in nearby facilities.

Level 4-6/6 Royal Australian and New Zealand College of O&G surgeries are performed. The unit consists of 12 bed Postnatal/Antenatal inpatient beds, a Birth Suite with 5 rooms and 2 assessment rooms and a Level 2 Neonatal Nursery that has 8 cots. Other services include Antenatal/Midwives Clinic, Domiciliary and Lactation Day Stay.

Medical care in the maternity and gynaecology areas are provided by Specialist Obstetricians, Registrars and House Officers. In addition, local General Practitioners with obstetric qualifications support the unit. The Maternity Unit is a level 5 service.

This is an acute and extended care facility which provides surgical, medical, paediatric, obstetrics and gynaecology, intensive care, and psychiatry services as well as extended care and regional services.

Skills & Qualifications required:
1. FRANZCOG or will RANZCOG assessed as substantially comparable
2. Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
3. Ability to manage change.
4. Ability to work in a team environment
5. Proven Leadership
6. A lengthy and extensive clinical practice experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
7. Competent in a wide range of obstetric and surgical procedures
8. Experienced educator and teacher of medical students, trainees and medical staff
9. Experience in research and service development in health settings
