Director of Paediatrics

The Role:
We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Director of Paediatrics to join a regional team, as a part of the clinical executive, leads and manages the Paediatric team enabling high quality, contemporary services integrated within the clinical services framework of the Hospital.
Liaison and coordination with other clinical departments is critical as is ongoing service development and teaching to provide for a sustainable service.

The Clinical Director (Paediatric) will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction, service planning, effective management and provision of medical services.
  • Be responsible for the education and supervision of junior medical staff and medical students.
  • Report to the Director of Medical Services.


The Unit has a 9 bed General Paediatric Ward, and a 4 cot Nursery.

In addition to a Paediatric outpatient service that reviews a wide variety of paediatric conditions, the department provides specialist paediatric services including Community Paediatrics, Child protection, Diabetes, Indigenous Health and Child Development.
Consultants are supported clinically in both the ward and clinics by Registrar and RMO cover. Administrative support for the ward and the Department is also provided.

The hospital has a busy Paediatric outpatient’s department reviewing a wide variety of paediatric conditions and includes a diabetic clinic. 30% of all CAT 1 patients presenting to the ED are Paediatric. The Nursery has C.P.A.P. and ventilator capabilities, undertaking short term respiratory support for newborns, or stabilisation before transfer to a Tertiary facility for ongoing management. Infants born less than 34 weeks gestation are transferred in-utero if possible, in consultation with the Obstetric team.

Hospital:
This is a 70-bed hospital and caters to a regional population of approximately 65,000 incorporating smaller rural/coastal settlements within its catchment area. The hospital provides a range of services including general medicine, emergency medicine and surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, high dependency and coronary care, medical imaging, palliative care, pathology and mental health services. In addition, there are additional services delivered via outreach/community-based facilities.

Location:
This is a sub-tropical climate and its proximity to islands, waterways and beaches provides year-round boating, fishing, swimming, and surfing. The climate and oceanic setting also yield’s delicious seafood including the famous crab. The city has its own unique appearance with a gorgeous harbour, the environment is so clean and green.

Education facilities including 13 public and private schools (preparatory year followed by year 1 to year 12), special education, Central Queensland Institute of TAFE and Central Queensland University

Brisbane is just a short 1 hour flight.

Mandatory Qualification/s: MBBS or equivalent to be eligible for registration as a Medical Practitioner
with the Medical Board of Australia, Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) Paediatrics and Child Health is mandatory.

Energy cost (electricity, gas if connected) is partly the responsibility of the tenant. In line with departmental policy, if public funded departmental housing is provided, the staff member receiving housing may not own a home within 50kms of the place of work. (Conditions apply).
