Head of Unit - General Medicine - FRACP

The Role:
We are currently looking for a Head of Unit – General Medicine to join a friendly and supportive team in a beautiful regional setting.

With proven leadership, organisational and communication skills, you will have the ability to undertake a managerial /financial role within an environment of change. This will include the ability to monitor methods of service delivery for the unit and to develop and monitor quality assurance activities.

The Head of Unit, General Medicine is responsible for coordinating the clinical activities of General Medicine and responsible for ensuring that the services provided by the service are consistent with the policies, objectives and standards of Health Network.

The Head of Unit is directly responsible to the Executive Director Medical Services and manages agreed service resources and budget.

You will have an active involvement in teaching Trainee Medical Officers, Interns and medical students and, where appropriate, nursing and allied health staff. As part of your duties, you will participate in clinical audit and quality, safety and clinical risk management activities, along with participation in research and continuous medical education activities.

Indicative Total Remuneration: $328,246 - $425,204 - Temp F/T


The Hospital:
This is the largest hospital in Country South Australia, it is less than 10 years old and has approximately 100 beds, which provides a range of services, including a 24-hour accident and emergency, acute inpatient, elective surgery, emergency surgery, birthing, paediatric and mental health services, and associated clinical support.

There are 37 medical beds, 27 surgical beds, a 6-bed High Dependency unit, a 20-bed maternity-paediatric ward and a 6-bed mental health unit. Facilities are provided for chemotherapy, dialysis and day surgery. There are 4 operating theatres, 12 day surgery chairs and 3 delivery suites.

The Location:
A thriving progressive community, locals enjoy a quality lifestyle with city facilities and services, many attractions, a wide range of shopping and entertainment, surrounded by volcanic craters, lakes, limestone and underground aquifers.

Famous for its 'Blue Lake' that changes colour dramatically each year, The Blue Lake is just one of the lakes within the three craters of the volcano. The city also boasts beautiful parks and gardens, caves and sinkholes. An interesting mix of galleries, museums and markets provides an insight into the culture and arts of the town. With fresh local food and wines available at many cafes and restaurants everyone's tastes are catered for.

Located the same distance from Adelaide and Melbourne!
Population of the city is about 25,000 but the catchment area for the hospital is approximately 60,000 people.

Skills & Qualifications required:

  • Proven leadership, organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to undertake a managerial /financial role within an environment of change
  • Ability to monitor methods of service delivery for the unit
  • Ability to develop and monitor the quality assurances activities of the unit.

FRACP or equivalent
