Hospital in the Home Physician

St Vincent's Hospital

  • Work for one of Australia’s leading hospital groups
  • Part-time for 12 months (up to 24.5 hours per week)
  • Based at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne (Fitzroy Campus)

About the Role

We are looking for a Consultant Physician to join our expanding Hospital in the Home (HITH) - a key arm of our health service’s ‘Care Beyond the Hospital Walls’ strategy - with a preferred commencement date of February 7, 2022. As the successful applicant, you will become part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team, working alongside other HITH Physicians, an Advanced Trainee and other junior medical staff to provide acute care to patients at home with a broad range of medical and post-surgical conditions, including COVID-19. Subject to ongoing funding, this opportunity may become permanent after the first 12 months.

In addition to the provision of specialist care, you will play a major role in clinical leadership, supporting the team - led medically by the HITH Lead Physician and Clinical Director of Home & Community Services - with service development at a time of huge growth in this exciting area. You will also be pivotal in the supervision and mentoring of HITH’s junior doctors, ensuring they receive the teaching and support required to perform successfully in their role.

You may also be involved in the teaching of medical students from Melbourne University and University of Notre Dame, health service activities including committees and research.

Classifications for this position will range depending on year of experience, according to the Medical Specialists Enterprise Agreement 2018-2021.

Essential criteria

  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with a strong clinical and quality focus, excellent interpersonal skills, a proactive, respectful collaborative approach to service improvement
  • Demonstrated commitment to the support and supervision of junior medical staff
  • Full Registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • FRACP (or equivalent)
  • Driver’s Licence
  • Current National Criminal History Check (or willing to obtain)

Desirable criteria

  • Specialisation in Geriatric Medicine, Cardiology, Nephrology, General Medicine
  • Experience in HITH clinical care
