Infectious Disease Consultant

The Role:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Infectious Disease Consultant to join a regional Hospital in a beautiful coastal setting.

The Infectious Disease service is relatively new to Health Service, the position covers off the major hospitals, including district hospitals, and primary health. The service includes two Staff Specialists/Consultants in addition to, Registrar and RMO support. There will be an opportunity to apply to RACP to have the Registrar term accredited for specialist training.

This position will be attractive to highly skilled and motivated medical professionals who view challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicants will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels.

The health service offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.

The Service:
The health service has the main acute 160 bed teaching Hospital (with a rural clinical school attached) and a 70 bed Private Hospital, the other acute Hospital is located a short distance away and has 130 beds.

A busy rural regional hospital with a diverse spread of surgical procedures performed including ENT, Orthopaedic Surgery, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dental Surgery, Endoscopy, Ophthalmology, ECT and a limited amount of Paediatric Surgery.

The Location:
Located in a beautiful seaport city with a population of 20,000 people, this region is un-spoilt and within easy drive of rugged mountains, spectacular wilderness and sparkling highland lakes. Unpolluted coastal seas and rich fertile soils enable local produce to be some of the world's finest foods.

Enjoy four distinct seasons, the surrounding oceans give Tasmania a moderate climate without the scorching heat of many parts of Australia or the 'deep freeze' winters that affect Northern Hemisphere countries at similar latitudes.

Skills & Qualifications required:
1. Sound and broad knowledge of current specialty practice in the discipline of infectious diseases medicine.
2. Recent experience in an acute hospital setting.
3. Demonstrated ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team of medical, nursing and allied health staff particularly with infection prevention and control and antimicrobial stewardship.
4. Demonstrated effective communication skills in dealing with patients, their relatives, and professional colleagues.
5. Demonstrated effective administrative skills in the health-care environment.
6. Knowledge of continuous quality improvement activities relevant to practice within the clinical discipline.
7. Evidence of ongoing participation and commitment to continuing medical education.
8. Commitment to medical research activity.
9. FRACP – Registered with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA
