The Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women’s Council (NPYWC) was created as a result of the Land Rights struggle in South Australia during the late 1970s, where many women felt that their views were being ignored.

The organisation covers 350,000 square kilometres of the remote tri-state area of Western Australia, South Australia and Northern Territory. NPYWC continues to be a leading advocacy agency for Anangu people in the Central Desert and is now also a major provider of human services in the region. Its overarching aim remains, to improve the lives of women and their families on the lands.

About the Opportunity
NPY Women’s Council has exciting opportunities for experienced Case Managers to join the Walytjapiti Team.

Walytjapiti is an Intensive Family Support Service, providing trauma informed case management with children and their families. You will be working with extremely complex families who have children who are at risk of or are experiencing neglect.
The program aims to empower and support parents and care givers to meet the needs of their children. Ultimately, working toward preventing child removals, whilst ensuring children are safe and supported by strong families and communities.

You will carry a caseload of 6-8 families and will be supported and supervised by the Walytjapiti Team Leader. As a member of the Walytjapiti Team you will be able to access regular supervision and additional professional development opportunities offered by the Australian Childhood Foundation in order to support your developing practice.

More specifically, within the role you will work towards:
  • Provide case management to carers and/or families needing ongoing support. This will include communication, coordination, liaising and referrals with other NPYWC Programs, community health services, clinics, child welfare agencies, and other human service agencies operating in the NPY region;
  • Supporting families to increase their capacity to care for children and babies;
  • Appropriately assisting specified families in regard to underlying issues that affect the care, health and well-being of children, such as parenting, domestic violence and substance misuse;
  • Working in a Malparara (side by side) partnership with an Anangu (Aboriginal) worker; and
  • Providing appropriate advocacy for carers and children to have access to culturally appropriate support, education, resources and services and consistent with organisational advocacy position.
