Mental Health Clinician - Triage and Assessment Centre

Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District

The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District's Mental Health Service has recently commissioned a 24/7 Triage and Assessment Centre to provide consumers with a central access point for mental health assessments, diagnosis, interventions and discharges.  The Centre is focused on delivering evidence based clinical interventions within best practice models of care to achieve good outcomes for consumers, their families and their carers.

Reporting to the Team Leader, with professional reporting to the relevant Senior Staff of your individual disciple, this role is primarily accountable for providing triage to mental health consumers presenting to the Service.  You will provide comprehensive mental health assessments for consumers, providing immediate treatment as required, establishing collaborative and respectful relationships with each person, their family and carers, to facilitate the establishment and maintenance of optimal health and well-being for consumers.

A bit about you.....
You will possess tertiary qualifications in either:
  • Social Work (where degree provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers)
  • Occupational Therapy, registered with AHPRA
  • Psychology, registered with AHPRA
  • Nursing, and Registered Nurse Division 1 with AHPRA, including completion of a new graduate RN program or 12-months experience working as a Registered Nurse
You will have demonstrated experience working with people presenting with an acute mental health problem, with a strong understanding of the recovery philosophy and trauma informed care in Mental Health and the ability to implement these within clinical practice.  You will have a working knowledge of the NSW Mental Health Act 2007, with strong interpersonal skills.

The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District is responsible for providing community health and hospital care for people living in the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Lithgow and Penrith Local Government Areas, and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region.

Our Local Health District consists of both urban and semi-rural areas, covering almost 9,179 square kilometres and an estimated resident population of almost 350,000 people.  The Dharug, Gundungurra and Wiradjuri people are acknowledged as the traditional Aboriginal owners of the land in our District.

Our Mental Health Service is based at Nepean Hospital at the base of the beautiful Blue Mountains and provides a wide range of inpatient and community-based mental health services across the entire District.
