About the Opportunities

Due to continued growth, the GEO Group Australia (GEO) is now looking to welcome one part-time and two full-time Mental Health Nurses to join their team (working a rotating 5 day roster, ensuring weekend coverage). These roles are located at the Junee Correctional Centre.

Reporting to the Health Services Manager and working with other Mental Health Nurses, your primary responsibility will be to provide psychiatric nursing services to the Centre and to assist in the provision of suicide prevention program and strategies at the Centre.

Your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Developing nursing care plans for patients;fme
  • Monitoring and assisting in the implementation of treatment plans for patients with diagnosed mental illness;
  • Coordinating and undertaking mental health assessments on patients referred to them;
  • Developing and implementing suicide/self-harm strategies and regularly assess their effectiveness in reducing suicide/self-harm in the Centre;
  • Working with other psychiatric/psychological professionals to assist in the development of discharge plans for patients in transition from patient care to community care;
  • Using problem-oriented medical record systems to document in medical records using the Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Planning (SOAP) format;
  • Documenting all patient occasions of service, refusal of service, non-attendance, and contacts;
  • Maintaining confidentiality of medical records; and
  • Preparing regularly scheduled reports and special reports as required.

To be successful in these roles, candidates must hold AHPRA registration as a Qualified Registered Nurse, postgraduate tertiary qualifications in mental health, and have professional postgraduate experience as a psychiatric nurse.
