Role Purpose

MHDA Statement of Intention
The intention of the NSLHD MHDA is to provide recovery-oriented, trauma informed services that are guided by evidence based practices and collaboration.
The position will be the lead for Education and Training. The role is intended to work collaboratively in supporting the delivery of quality teaching and learning within the multidisciplinary workforce.
The role includes the facilitation of site based Orientation and Induction process, Mandatory Training and supporting and coordinating Student Nurse Placement across the site. The implementation of strategic training initiatives in collaboration with clinical Nurse Educators.

Key Accountability
The Nurse Educator will coordinate and deliver site based elements of orientation and induction programs in conjunction with site Clinical Nurse Educator. The Nurse Educator will establish, maintain and monitor systems and processes that support quality education and training in areas mandated by law or policy.
The Nurse Educator will consistently develop, implement and assess educational material and teaching methods using a wide range of delivery approaches. The incumbent will contribute to the development of resources for staff working in teaching and assessment roles. The Nurse Educator will lead and develop ongoing evaluation of training and education in consultation with the Director of Nursing.
The Nurse Educator will identify and, where appropriate, provide educational opportunities to assist employees achieve the required level of proficiency, experience and knowledge in relation to their mental health clinical practice.
The Nurse Educator will provide monthly reports to the Executive on education and training, in regards to KPI's, for their specific site.
The Nurse Educator will work collaboratively with the Multidisciplinary Team in regards to the training needs of the various departments.
The Nurse Educator will maintain an up-to-date knowledge of clinical service delivery whilst preserving professional competency standards and ethics. The incumbent will complete all mandatory training and attend any lectures, tutorials, programs and development activities that management deems necessary.
The Nurse Educator will work according to the Departmental safe work methods and guidelines. The incumbent must adhere to all NSW Health and NSLHD Policies and Procedures.

Essential Requirement
As a leader you are expected to support the organisation achieve the aims of the safety management system, to establish and maintain a positive health and safety culture in the workplace and to consult with workers and others when making decisions that may impact upon the health, safety and welfare of those in the workplace.

Selection Criteria
  • Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  • Current Registration as a Registered Nurse Division ( with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA)
  • Holds tertiary Post Graduate mental health qualifications. Holds, and or is working towards, post registration educational qualification relevant to providing specialist Mental Health Drug and Alcohol education training sessions for a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated advanced interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team with a variety of multidisciplinary stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated advanced competence in the use of technology for communication as pertinent to the Nurse Education role.
  • An awareness of contemporary issues in MHDA clinical practice, quality service delivery and staff education development.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to develop, deliver and evaluate education programs consistent with the learning and development needs of Macquarie Hospital as aligned to the strategic direction of NSLHD MHDA.
  • Sound theoretical knowledge and demonstrated experience in utilising a range of teaching and learning strategies to support staff development including eLearning.
