The Opportunity
We currently have a casual opportunity for a Nutrition Assistant to deliver outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills to provide a high quality menu and nutrition based service to our patients. To be successful in the role, you will be required to apply a strong focus on patient interaction and menu selection via our patient bedside menu service.
The position is based on shift work and requires you to be flexible; including being available to work weekends and extra shifts where required by the department. The hours of work are not specific, however a roster will be provided 2 weeks in advance.
Your responsibilities are (but not limited to):
- Provide nutritional support to patients by assisting patients with their meal selections according to their dietary, social and physical needs through the co-ordination of menus and meals using a computerised Bedside Menu Service.
- Ensure customer service is delivered through a high standard of menu and meal service to ensure patient satisfaction.
- Co-ordinate all patient food and beverage requirements from the patient care level to Food Services.
- Encourage and promote communication between dietitians, food service staff and nursing staff on patient care levels to ensure patients’ needs are met.
- Work collaboratively both within and outside the team and take ownership of delivering accurate and timely results.
- Manage own work load to deliver results which ensures department as a whole is productive and efficient.
The Skills and Experience Required
- A Health Service Assistant (Nutrition and Dietetics Support) Certificate III.
- Experience in report writing.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A demonstrated ability to work well in a team and independently.
- Strong computer and administrative skills.
- Ability to handle situations that require de-escalation strategies.
- An understanding of workplace health and safety issues.
- Previous experience as a Nutrition Assistant or Diet Aide and experience using the Cbord Food Service System would be desirable.
Essential requirements
- In accordance to guidelines set by NSW Health, all SVPHS employees are required to have up to date vaccinations before commencement. It is encouraged that you ensure your vaccinations are current ahead of time as you may be requested to provide documentation at interview stage.
- Criminal record checks will be conducted and will form part of the selection criteria for this role.

Salary
Rates are paid in accordance with years of service and in alignment to our EBA.
