Scope Global

About the Opportunity
The high prevalence of diabetes and increase in diabetic related amputation is a major challenge for the health service in Kiribati. People generally seek medical assistance very late, by which time their wounds are large and infected, which almost always leads to surgical debridement or amputation.
Through this role, you will help establish a Diabetic Foot Clinic to deliver client education, wound management and offloading to heal diabetic foot ulcers and prevent amputation. Using your skills in diabetic wound management to provide training and mentoring to the nursing staff of the Tungaru Central Hospital and Tungaru Rehabilitation Service you will help raise awareness of early identification and treatment of diabetic foot ulcers.

You will receive ongoing role support from Motivation Australia and have opportunities to contribute learning to their Regional Amputation Prevention Programme initiative that is intended to reduce the number of amputations in the Pacific Region caused by secondary complications of diabetes

About You
  • Bachelor Degree in Podiatry, Nursing or similar
  • Three years of experience working  in a podiatrist/nursing role
  • Ability to relocate in 2017
