Junee Correctional Centre
is a medium and minimum security correctional centre for males, located 400km south-west of Sydney and 40km from Wagga Wagga. The township ofJunee (population 5,000) is a “modern, convenient lifestyle centre” that maintains its railway heritage. With popular tourist destinations (such as the Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factoryand the historical Monte Cristo homestead), Junee is also only 20 minutes from the facilities of the Riverina’s largest city, Wagga Wagga (population 70,000). About the Opportunity

The GEO Group Australia (GEO) now has a rewarding opportunity for a Psychologist to join our Rehabilitation and Reintegration Team on a full-time basis, located at the Junee Correctional Centre in Junee, NSW.

Reporting to the Senior Psychologist this position provides professional psychological intervention including assessments, reports, crisis counselling, and program facilitation. With huge autonomy and flexibility in the types of assessment models you use and in the amount of time you are able to spend with each patient, your ultimate goal is to reduce recidivism amongst offenders and to help them safely and successfully reenter the community on their release.

Your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Acting as a member of the High Risk Assessment Team (HRAT), to provide assessment of offenders who are considered to be at risk of suicide or self-harm and develop appropriate strategies for their management;
  • Conducting CSNSW approved programs and individual intervention sessions and preparing notes and reports on progress as it relates to offenders’ rehabilitation needs, risk and treatment plans;
  • Administering and interpreting individual cognitive functioning, personality and other psychological tests as appropriate; and
  • Evaluating assessment data to identify causes of psychological concerns and determining appropriate strategies such as psychological intervention or referral to other specialists, services, or areas within CSNSW.
