Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (AHAC) is a multi-disciplinary organisation that provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region. Since our inception in 1984, we have been committed to 'closing the gap' in Aboriginal health within remote Australia. 

At Anyinginyi, we comprise five sections that allow us to take a holistic approach to health, ensuring that our clients' physical and emotional health and wellbeing are the utmost priority. Our various sections include Health Centre, Corporate Services, Public Health Unit, Sports and Recreation, and Piliyintinji-Ki Stronger Families. 

To keep up with our growing demand, we are now looking for passionate Registered Nurses dedicated to providing a wide range of health services through passionate community outreach to the residents of Tennant Creek. This is a unique opportunity to be hands-on and make a real difference in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

This rewarding opportunity will see you working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing high-quality primary health care services to the population of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly Communities, with a particular focus on providing care to Aboriginal community members.

You will also play a crucial role in delivering our Clinic team's goals to manage illness, promote wellbeing, maintain health systems, provide education and training, and encourage community health actions.

Core duties:
  • Supporting Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHP) as the vital health providers in the community to facilitate the delivery of culturally appropriate health care, including supporting Anyinginyi's trainees with proper supervision and mentoring through their training;
  • In conjunction with the management team and the CQI officer, develop, implement and participate in continuous quality improvement projects and initiatives and adjust clinic practice following findings;
  • Participating in planning, delivering and evaluating client services;
  • Participating in all areas of primary health care service delivery, including (but not limited to) delivery of age-appropriate checks, immunisation program delivery, Women's health program delivery, child health program delivery, sexual health and chronic disease management;
  • Undertaking a wide range of nursing duties including general patient assessment, launching ECGs, specimen collection, provision of wound care and provision of chronic disease management; and
  • Check, prepare and administer all medications as per CARPA Manual and state legislation, Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration and as guided by the General Practitioners or the Pharmacist.

In this role, you will also develop and maintain strong collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders and service providers in the Barkly Region, focusing on adopting a holistic approach to ensure agencies work together to address clients' medical needs.

We are looking for proactive individuals with a strong willingness to learn who possess qualifications as a Registered Nurse and AHPRA registration and demonstrated nursing and remote health industry. You will also have the knowledge and understanding of the Primary Health Care system and critical issues relevant to closing the gap in health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

You will be an avid communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate and facilitate clinical and informed education practices, including supervision of support workers and the ability to work with minimal supervision, maintain lines of accountability, set work priorities, and meet deadlines.

Moreover, you will have the demonstrated ability to think laterally and be innovative in response to the changing health needs of Aboriginal Women with a willingness to incorporate local values and protocols in wellbeing programs, services, and initiatives.

Ideally, you will possess the SA immunisation certificate. If you have an immunisation certificate from another state, that's okay. We will support you to obtain your SA immunisation accreditation. 

Please note: you will be required to have an Ochre Card (NT Working with Children Check) card and National Police Check before commencement in this role.

You will receive an attractive remuneration circa $97,333 – $103,994 plus super, negotiable with skills and experience. In addition, you will have access to a range of great benefits, including:
  • Salary packaging up to $15,899.94
  • Subsidised furnished accommodation is available for candidates coming from outside of the Barkly region;
  • Up to $5,000 relocation assistance and up to $5,000 repatriation assistance
  • Six weeks annual leave giving you plenty of time to explore the beautiful Barkly region;
  • Negotiable study leave;
  • Remote retention allowance of $750;
  • Employee access to Anyinginyi Health Clinic – with free prescriptions;
  • Free general dentistry (excluding laboratory work); and
  • $1,300 study allowance per year.
