Rehabilitation Consultant/Staff Specialist

The Role:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Rehabilitation Consultant/Staff Specialist to join a team in a beautiful rural coastal setting.

The rehabilitation service is in a purpose-built ward and is two years young. The Rehabilitation Consultant/Staff Specialist has solid junior doctor support with a Registrar and RMO with the Registrar position being accredited for advanced training with RACP. You will be expected to provide clinical and medical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team delivering inpatient and ambulatory rehabilitation services to the community.

This position will be attractive to highly skilled and motivated medical professionals who view challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicants will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels.

The health service offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.

The Service:
The health service has the main acute 160 bed teaching Hospital (with a rural clinical school attached) and a 70 bed Private Hospital, the other acute Hospital is located a short distance away and has 130 beds.

A busy rural regional hospital with a diverse spread of surgical procedures performed including ENT, Orthopaedic Surgery, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dental Surgery, Endoscopy, Ophthalmology, ECT and a limited amount of Paediatric Surgery.

The Location:
Located in a beautiful seaport city with a population of 20,000 people, this region is un-spoilt and within easy drive of rugged mountains, spectacular wilderness and sparkling highland lakes. Unpolluted coastal seas and rich fertile soils enable local produce to be some of the world's finest foods.

Enjoy four distinct seasons, the surrounding oceans give Tasmania a moderate climate without the scorching heat of many parts of Australia or the 'deep freeze' winters that affect Northern Hemisphere countries at similar latitudes.

Skills & Qualifications required:
1. Sound knowledge of the philosophy, principles and contemporary specialty practice of rehabilitation services including the assessment and management of patients in inpatient, outpatient, and community rehabilitation settings.
2. Highly developed communication, collaboration, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, consultation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with external and internal organisations.
3. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team including the ability to be adaptable and flexible in a complex clinical environment.
4. Demonstrated ability to participate in professional development, peer review, evaluation and quality improvement activities and risk management.
5. Demonstrated ability to provide ongoing support, consultancy, advice and education to specialist practitioners and other services.
6. Demonstrated experience and capacity in the provision of rehabilitation education programs at an undergraduate and post graduate level, and participation in research relating to evidence-based practice in rehabilitation medicine, including the ability to plan and manage research programs.
7. Knowledge and understanding of contemporary human resource management principles, financial planning and budgeting skills including Employment Equity and Work Health and Safety principles.
