About the Organisation

The Spinifex Health Service (SHS) is an expanding Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Service located in the Tjuntjuntjara Community on the Spinifex Lands, 680km north-east of Kalgoorlie in the Great Victoria Desert region of Western Australia.

SHS provides a comprehensive primary health care service from the Tjuntjuntjara Clinic, servicing approximately 200 people with a strong focus on chronic disease management, child and maternal health, social & emotional well-being, aged care and Home and Community Care (HACC).

About the Opportunity

SHS has an opportunity for a highly experienced, suitably qualified and passionate Remote Area Nurse to join their team on a 6 weeks on, 2 weeks off fly in, fly out roster.

This is a unique position, designed to back-fill nurses on leave who provide mental health, chronic disease and child health.

Working in partnership with Aboriginal Health Practitioners, service staff, specialists, allied health professionals, RFDS and other regional providers, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Clinical duties - general clinic, emergency care (including medical evacuations), child health, antenatal, sexual health, screening and community programs;
  • Health promotion and disease prevention education to assist clients understand and manage their health condition and required treatments;
  • Follow up on recalls provided by the nurse on leave for health checks;
  • Development and follow up of GP management plans and Team Care Arrangements;
  • Referral of patients to specialist appointments including PATS arrangements

Our ideal candidate will possess a current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, have at least 3 years’ remote nursing experience, a strong interest and working knowledge of Aboriginal primary healthcare services, an understanding of the issues effecting and impacting on the health and well-being of Aboriginal people and the ability to work and reside in a remote region

  • 6:2 FIFO roster - travel provided from Kalgoorli to the community and back each swing
  • Accommodation - all utilities including wifi for $40 per week
  • Relocation allowance (including airfares from your place of origin to the community and the cost of freighting your belongings up to the cost of 1 Pallet)
  • Vehicle provided for operational purposes
  • 4 weeks annual leave
