Course Description

Refined over many years the techniques of Advanced Life support have proven effective in treating cardiac arrest and giving victims a second chance at life. In this first, of a two part, course on Advanced Life Support we explore the core principles for ALS focusing on the procedure of attaching and then immediately charging the defibrillator before stopping CPR to assess the rhythm. The course will assist you to rapidly interpret the cardiac arrest rhythm and decide whether to follow the shockable or non-shockable management pathway. The course will build an understanding of the major electrical and pharmacological interventions used in Advanced Life Support and the case scenario illustrates the management of cardiac arrest due to a shockable rhythm.

The course begins with an eTutorial that introduces many of the core principles for advanced life support and is then followed by an interactive case scenario that allows you to apply the theory to the practical care of an arrest victim. A final quiz allows you to assess your mastery of the topic.
