About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Allied Health or Nursing clinician to join the Andrew Dent Mental Health & Alcohol and Other Drugs (MH&AOD) Hub within the Emergency Department. Working closely with the ALERT care coordination team, you will provide timely assessment, care coordination and discharge planning for patients presenting with complex mental health, alcohol and other drug (AOD), homelessness and psychosocial needs. Through comprehensive assessment, collaboration and referral, you will help deliver person-centered care while supporting safe and effective patient flow through the Emergency Department. Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate with patients, carers, Emergency Department clinicians, ALERT and the MH&AOD Hub to ensure coordinated care and smooth transitions into community and specialist services.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing a clinical response to eligible MH&AOD Hub patients between 1:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
- Delivering discipline-specific assessment, care coordination and clinical management.
- Developing comprehensive discharge plans and facilitating referrals to appropriate community services.
- Coordinating admissions and referrals to area mental health, alcohol and other drug, inpatient and outreach services.
- Liaising with community providers to support continuity of care.
- Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with St Vincent's policies, legislation and professional standards.
Classification
Salary will be in accordance with the relevant Enterprise Agreement:
- Grade 2 Allied Health: $90,235.60 – $103,724.40 per annum (pro rata)
- Nursing (YW7/CN5): $121,695.60 per annum (pro rata)
Your Contribution
You will bring:
- A Nursing or Allied Health qualification relevant to the role, with a minimum of two years' experience in an acute healthcare setting.
- Current AHPRA registration (where applicable) and/or eligibility for membership of the relevant professional association.
- Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Mental Health
- Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD)
- Homelessness
- Strong clinical assessment and care coordination skills.
- Experience managing competing clinical priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Sound understanding of contemporary care coordination frameworks and person-centered practice.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team.
- A current National Criminal History Check, or willingness to obtain one.

About ALERT and the Andrew Dent Mental Health & AOD Hub
The Andrew Dent Mental Health & AOD Hub is a specialised multidisciplinary service located within the St Vincent's Emergency Department. The Hub brings together clinicians from Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs and the ALERT care coordination team to provide expert assessment and intervention for patients presenting with high-acuity mental health concerns, substance use issues and complex psychosocial needs.
The service operates seven days per week across extended hours to deliver timely, integrated and person-centred care. While this role reports clinically to the MH&AOD Hub Team Leader, line management sits within the ALERT care coordination service.
