Palliative Care Inpatient Unit
Our specialist palliative care inpatient unit is committed to providing compassionate care for patients with complex symptoms and end-of-life needs. Here, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team that works tirelessly to ensure that no patient faces their journey alone.

What the role involves
In this role, you’ll lead a dynamic team, coaching and guiding staff to provide exceptional, evidence-based palliative care. Picture yourself collaborating with fellow ANUM's and Coordinators, fostering a strong, team-oriented atmosphere where every member feels valued and empowered.

You won’t be alone on this journey; our dedicated Palliative Care Nurse Educator will be there to provide ongoing, hands-on support, ensuring you have the tools and knowledge to thrive. Reporting to the Palliative Care Nurse Manager, you’ll have the backing you need to excel in your role.

This part-time role operates on a rotating roster, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead with Confidence: Coordinate shifts and plan patient activities, ensuring seamless operations.
  • Be a Clinical Expert: Share your knowledge with the clinical team, providing guidance and expertise.
  • Communicate Effectively: Escalate issues to senior staff as needed, ensuring follow-up actions are implemented.
  • Support and Coach: Assist and mentor your colleagues in problem-solving and delivering outstanding care.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Liaise with medical staff and other health professionals to create an integrated model of care.
  • Triage Community Calls: Manage clinical information and collaborate with the Homecare team for out-of-hours visits and admissions.


What we're looking for:
To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

  • Post-graduate qualifications and/or relevant experience in Palliative Care.
  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • A passion for quality improvement and auditing, with a desire to drive positive change in patient outcomes.
