Are you an experienced Business Development professional looking to make a meaningful impact in healthcare? This is an exciting opportunity to join St Vincent’s Private Hospital Melbourne (SVPHM) as a Business Development Manager, driving growth and shaping the future of our services.

We are currently offering two opportunities across different locations:

  • Werribee – Permanent Part-Time (0.8 FTE)
  • East Melbourne/Kew – Permanent Full-Time

ABOUT YOUR NEW ROLE:

In this role, you will lead strategic business development initiatives across SVPHM’s sites, working closely with the State Business Development Manager and General Manager and Director of Clinical Services.

You will play a key role in identifying growth opportunities, strengthening specialist partnerships, and enhancing service delivery to support the hospital’s long-term sustainability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Driving business growth by identifying and developing new service opportunities
  • Recruiting, onboarding, and building strong relationships with medical specialists
  • Collaborating with clinical and operational teams to optimise hospital performance
  • Developing and implementing strategic business development programs
  • Working with marketing teams to promote hospital services and increase patient activity
  • Contributing to business cases, reporting, and strategic planning
  • Supporting health fund negotiations and service utilisation strategies
  • Overseeing consulting suites operations and resource utilisation

ABOUT YOU:

You are a strategic thinker with strong relationship-building skills and a passion for driving results in a healthcare environment.

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in business, health, marketing, commerce, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in business development within private hospitals or healthcare services
  • Proven success in sales, marketing, or growth-focused roles
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives
  • Experience in business case development and budget management
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to lead, influence, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams

Desirable:

  • Experience with CRM systems and project planning tools
  • Understanding of specialist practice management
  • AHPRA registration (or similar)

ROLE IMPACT

St Vincent's Private Hospital Melbourne (SVPHM) is a not-for-profit, private Catholic hospital caring for the community for more than 100 years. With over 500 registered beds and more than 1,800 staff across four hospitals located in Fitzroy, East Melbourne, Kew and Werribee, St Vincent's Private Hospital Melbourne is one of Melbourne’s busiest and biggest acute care hospitals. Major specialities of the hospital include orthopaedics, urology, general surgery, cardiology, obstetrics, gynaecology, reconstructive plastic surgery, ophthalmology, and rehabilitation. We also specialise in ear, nose and throat, oncology and haematology.

The role of the East Melbourne / Kew Hospitals Business Development Manager is to drive business growth and development for these two Private hospitals in Melbourne... Working closely with the State Business Development Manager and each hospital’s General Manager, the BDM’s purpose is to recruit surgeons and medical specialists, develop the core surgical and medical specialty services of SVPEM and SVPHK, and work with the hospital executive teams to achieve profitable, sustainable activity growth in line with each Hospital’s strategic plan. The Business Development Manager also works collaboratively with the site Marketing & Communications Liaison and the Group Marketing Team to identify targets and campaigns to create VMO-facing and GP/referrer-facing programs that maximise doctor acquisition and retention opportunities.

This role is responsible for driving demand for specialty services in line with St. Vincent’s Private Hospitals’ strategic plans. The Business Development Manager acts as a key relationship manager & conduit between the Hospitals’ leadership teams and incoming Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs), their Practice Managers and referring GPs, and shares responsibility with other St. Vincent’s executives for ensuring St Vincent’s maintains positive long-term, and mutually beneficial relationships with VMOs.

QUALIFICATIONS

MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Considerable experience in a Commercial leadership role within a clinical healthcare setting, preferably private hospitals
  • Healthcare Sales, business development experience
  • Marketing & customer engagement experience
  • Ability to identify, build and develop new and existing relationships with doctors.
  • Ability to link key strategies to executional plans & delivery of commercial outcomes.
  • High level interpersonal, presentation and communications skills.
  • Experience managing a team of people in a high-demand environment
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities.
  • Budget preparation and proven business case writing skills.
  • Flexibility to work before and after business hours as required.
  • Target driven, positive attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute to overall results.

Desirable

  • Experience with Sales pipeline management tools such as CRM systems
  • P&L, Finance experience within a healthcare setting
  • Experience with training / professional educational bodies/RTOs
  • Familiarity with Strategic Selling concepts/methodologies

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Degree in Health, Business or Commerce or related field

Category B (non-clinical facing)

SVHA has a duty of care under work health and safety legislation to eliminate and/or control the risk of transmission of vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) in healthcare settings. You therefore must comply with the SVHA Immunisation Policy, which, depending on the role you perform in the organisation will require you to undergo certain immunisations/vaccinations (e.g., Covid-19 and flu vaccinations).

Office Environment – Melbourne Hospitals (primarily SVPH Werribee- based, alternating throughout the week).
