Help Shape Australia's Future in Forensic Youth Mental Health

Are you a Consultant Psychiatrist looking for more than just your next clinical role?
This is a unique opportunity to join the newly established Parkville Youth Mental Health & Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) and play a leading role in developing Australia's first statewide early intervention forensic youth mental health service.

Working across Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct, Parkville and Malmsbury, you'll care for young people aged 1225 years with complex mental health, neurodevelopmental and trauma-related presentations, while helping to transform how forensic youth mental healthcare is delivered across Victoria.

The Role
As a Consultant Psychiatrist within the Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS), you will:
  • Provide specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment for young people in custodial settings.
  • Lead and support an experienced multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide clinical oversight for dedicated mental health units within Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct.
  • Supervise Psychiatry Registrars and junior medical staff.
  • Influence statewide service development, innovation and clinical governance.
  • Work collaboratively with Youth Justice, health, education and community services to improve outcomes for vulnerable young people.
This is an outstanding opportunity for psychiatrists with experience or an interest in Forensic Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Youth Mental Health, or General Adult Psychiatry looking to broaden their scope into forensic youth services.

What We're Looking For
  • FRANZCP (or substantially comparable international specialist qualifications eligible for specialist registration)
  • Experience working with young people experiencing complex mental illness
  • Interest or experience in forensic mental health or youth justice
  • Strong leadership, supervision and multidisciplinary team skills
  • Passion for service development, education and improving systems of care
Why This Opportunity?
  • Help build a brand-new statewide service from the ground up
  • Influence clinical practice and service design
  • Work with highly complex, rewarding and meaningful cases
  • Excellent opportunities for leadership, teaching and research
  • Flexible full-time or part-time appointments
  • Attractive remuneration and salary packaging benefits
  • Join an organisation committed to innovation, staff wellbeing and professional development
Why Melbourne?
Melbourne offers an exceptional lifestyle with world-class healthcare, outstanding schools, vibrant arts and dining, beautiful parks and easy access to beaches, wineries and regional Victoria. It's the ideal destination for psychiatrists seeking both career progression and an outstanding quality of life.
