The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for a Consultant Emergency Physician to join the Emergency Department at a University Hospital, a major tertiary referral centre.
Managing approximately 100,000 presentations annually, the department provides a broad and highly rewarding scope of practice across adult and paediatric emergency medicine, trauma, retrieval medicine and critical care.

About the Emergency Department
The department is one of the largest and busiest Emergency Departments in Queensland and provides care for patients across a vast geographic region.
Key features include:

• Approximately 100,000 presentations per annum
• Dedicated 12-bed Paediatric Emergency Department
• Around 20% paediatric presentations
• Overall admission rate of approximately 30%
• Excellent patient flow with 95% ambulance off-stretcher performance
• Adult and paediatric Emergency Medicine exposure
• Emergency Short Stay Unit
• Aeromedical Retrieval Clinical Coordination for North Queensland
• Participation in the innovative Frailty Intervention Team
• Major trauma and tertiary referral services
• Strong culture of education, research and clinical governance

Leadership & Teaching
This position offers significant involvement in supervision, mentorship and workforce development.
You will work closely with and provide teaching and supervision to:

• 16 FTE Interns
• 40 FTE Resident Medical Officers
• 33 FTE Emergency Medicine Registrars
• 3 FTE Physician Assistants

Requirements

• Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or equivalent, IMGs assessed as substantially comparable will also be considered
• Eligibility for Specialist Registration with the Medical Board of Australia
• Experience in both adult and paediatric emergency medicine
