The Role:
We are seeking a Consultant/Specialist General Medicine to join a small regional hospital duties include both inpatient and ambulatory patients, within regional communities, and contribute to post graduate education, including the supervision of General Medicine trainees.
  • Lifestyle is well suited to those who enjoy nature-based recreation activities such as fishing, bushwalking, camping, canoeing and swimming.
  • This is a sub-tropical climate, with distinct wet and dry seasons. Temperatures range from 25 to 35 C, with an occasional 40 in November or December, usually with high humidity.
  • The Dry Season has fine weather with temperatures dropping down to 10 C overnight.
  • Salary package up $350,000
  • Small 60 bed Hospital
Key duties and responsibilities
  • Conduct regular inpatient ward rounds and outpatient sessions incorporating teaching and provide specialist opinion to referring medical practitioners.
  • Participate in provision of specialist outreach General Medicine services to regional hospitals and remote communities.
  • Provide care and advice on the management of patients with General Medicine conditions to colleagues both within and outside the specialty.
  • Provide an after-hours consultancy service to colleagues and junior medical staff.
  • Direct, coordinate, supervise, manage and evaluate the work of subordinate medical staff in the provision of patient care.

Selection criteria
  • Eligible for general, limited and/or specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia (MBA).
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact positively in a cross-cultural work environment, as a team member.
  • An interest in and a commitment to improving Indigenous health.
  • Evidence of commitment to; continuing education, teaching, research and quality assurance activities.
  • An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
