Deputy Elective Surgery Manager

St Vincent's Hospital

About the Role
The Deputy Elective Surgery Manager will work closely with both the Surgical Services Operations Manager and the Elective Surgery Team to manage the daily operations and management of the Elective Surgery department. Key deliverables in this role include facilitating the operational delivery of our Elective Surgery Strategic Plan that aligns to our key organisational KPIs.

  • Demonstrate leadership skills to deliver and achieve the ultimate vision with the ESMT to treat our patients safely, in time, every time.
  • Ensure 100% of category 1 elective surgery patients are admitted within 30 days
  • Facilitate our Tier 1 Daily Management System meeting, identifying problems and barriers to scheduling all patients
  • Build and maintain effective professional relationships with key staff (waitlist, theatre and surgical teams) to ensure all elective theatre lists are fully booked to agreed capacity and vacant sessions backfilled for use by elective patients
  • Work closely with the Surgical Services Operations Manager to implement and manage strategies to achieve key KPIs that include but not limited to; Number of patients on the Elective Surgery Waiting List, Admissions, Hospital Initiated Postponements and Percentage of Patients Treated Within Time



Classifications for this position will be ZJ4 ($113,646 Per Annum, Pro Rata)


Your Contribution

  • Bachelor of Nursing, which meets the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Current Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia through AHPRA
  • At least 5 years clinical, surgical nursing experience
  • Post Graduate Nursing Qualification
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Awareness of the Elective Surgery Access Policy
  • Leadership qualities with proven ability to direct, negotiate, enthuse and encourage in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Current National criminal history check, or willing to obtain

About Elective Surgery
The Elective Surgery Team coordinates the care of those patients that are on the St Vincent’s Hospital Elective Surgery and Endoscopy waiting list in accordance with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Elective Surgery Access Policy. The team is responsible for the case management of all patients across all surgical specialties and providing timely access to elective surgery and Endoscopy here at St Vincent’s.
