General Manager - Clinical Services/ Director of Nursing

Pegasus Health

  • Newly shaped executive role uniting clinical services and nursing leadership
  • A strong strategic voice at the SLT table with direct Board involvement
  • Christchurch, New Zealand based

About Pegasus Health:
Pegasus Health (Charitable) Ltd has supported general practice across Waitaha Canterbury for more than 30 years, helping practices deliver accessible, equitable and high-quality care to their communities.
Its reach extends to the delivery of health services to improve health outcomes for all, supporting an integrated health care system. The Pegasus 24 Hour Surgery handled over 75,000 presentations last year. The Acute Demand Management Service, now in its 26th year, delivered more than 28,000 packages of care in the community, the equivalent of several hospital wards of acutely unwell people cared for at home. HealthOne and ERMS, the digital systems Pegasus Health built, are also expanding nationally.

At a time of significant change across the health sector, Pegasus Health is charting its own strategic course, making more of its core assets and enabling conditions for general practice to thrive.

About The Role:
This is a newly shaped role bringing together clinical and community services into a single portfolio, and the successful candidate will be the first to hold it. You will have strategic oversight across urgent and after-hours care, primary mental health, community services and allied health, and older persons' health — while holding whole-of-network professional accountability for nursing.

Clinical services leadership and nursing leadership carry equal weight here. You will be the outward-facing professional voice for nursing across the Pegasus Health network, regionally and nationally.  You will be supported by a Professional Nursing Advisory Group, and you will help shape pathways that develop the next generation of nurses and nurse practitioners in primary care.

As a member of the Strategic Leadership Team reporting to the Chief Executive, you will attend the Pegasus Health Board and the Clinical Quality Advisory Board meetings and contribute to clinical governance. You will share responsibility with the SLT for leading Pegasus Health as a connected whole, work alongside the Chief Medical Officer on clinical governance and risk management, and help grow sustainable services that keep people well in their own communities.

  • Experience providing clinical advice to Chief Executives, Boards or governance groups
  • Budgeting and financial performance management within a health or public sector context
  • A demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to equity in service delivery and professional leadership
  • A strong understanding of the New Zealand health system, including relationships with Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora and other system partnersA business or leadership qualification, Board-level experience, and exposure to working with iwi would all be advantageous.

Benefits:
Pegasus Health offers five weeks' annual leave and a professional development allowance, alongside the opportunity to shape a senior role from its first day. Based at Pegasus House in central tautahi Christchurch, you will be close to the city's amenities with the Canterbury coastline, Banks Peninsula and the Southern Alps all within easy reach.

Culture:
Manaakitanga is Pegasus Health's guiding principle, expressed through values of inclusiveness, integrity, connection and striving for better. Its commitment to equity is anchored in Kia atawhai ki te tangata — care for our people — a kanga gifted by Ngi Thuriri. The goal is a substantial improvement in health outcomes across the takiw by 2030, with a significant reduction in inequities in access and outcomes.

This is a continually moving and complex environment. Service areas continue to evolve, and services are contract-dependent. The diverse Strategic Leadership Team spans commercial and clinical perspectives, and robust, collaborative debate is expected.
