St Vincent’s Health Australia is seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist to join our Justice Health team at Port Phillip Prison, delivering high-quality, person-centred care to people in custody. About the role
Working three days per week (0.6 EFT), you will provide senior-level occupational therapy within a multidisciplinary prison health service. You will manage a complex clinical caseload and contribute to service development, quality improvement and professional leadership.
You will support people in custody to:
- Maintain and improve functional independence
- Manage cognitive, psychosocial and physical impairments
- Prepare for safe discharge, reintegration and continuity of care
- Engage in meaningful activity, routines and self-management
Classifications for this position will range from Occupational Therapist Grade 3 VG3 - VG6 ($104,135 - $118,981 per annum, pro rata for part time).
This is a role that requires strong clinical judgement, excellent communication and a commitment to ethical, trauma-informed, patient-centered care.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver advanced occupational therapy assessment and intervention for people with complex health and psychosocial needs
- Provide functional, cognitive and environmental assessment to support safety, independence and participation
- Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, mental health and custodial teams
- Support care planning, discharge and community linkage, including NDIS
- Contribute to service improvement, clinical governance and workforce capability
- Provide clinical leadership, supervision and mentoring within the OT and allied health team
About you
You are a Occupational Therapist who is motivated by meaningful work and committed to social justice. You bring strong professional integrity, emotional intelligence and a belief in healthcare equity.
You will have:
- AHPRA registration as an Occupational Therapist
- Post-graduate experience in complex, mental health, forensic, correctional or community settings
- Advanced skills in functional, cognitive and psychosocial assessment
- A commitment to trauma-informed, culturally safe and recovery-oriented practice
- Strong communication, clinical reasoning and risk management skills
- A genuine interest in working with vulnerable and marginalised populations
