We are seeking an experienced FACEM to take on the role of Head of Unit Emergency Department. This is a rare chance to combine strategic leadership, clinical governance, and hands-on emergency medicine in one of Victorias most liveable regional cities.

The Opportunity
As Head of Unit, you will provide operational and strategic clinical leadership to the Emergency Department, working closely with the Director and Clinical Director of Emergency and Intensive Care, and the Emergency Nurse Unit Manager.

A major initial focus of the role will be preparing the department and its workforce for transition into a new, significantly expanded Emergency Department in 2027, as part of the Hospital redevelopment.

This role offers genuine influence, autonomy, and the opportunity to shape emergency care for a growing regional population.

The Emergency Department
  • Designated regional trauma centre
  • Tier 1 accredited training program with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine
  • 35 points of care plus a 12-bed Short Stay Unit
  • Over 56,000 presentations per year, with more than 23% paediatric
  • Strong critical care, anaesthetic, surgical, medical, mental health, and womens and childrens services on site
About You
You are a senior Emergency Medicine specialist ready to step into, or further develop, a high-impact clinical leadership role. You bring credibility, approachability, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a complex acute care environment.
You will have:
  • Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM)
  • Current specialist registration with AHPRA
  • Broad experience across the full scope of Emergency Medicine
  • Demonstrated leadership capability (previous senior roles desirable)
  • A strong commitment to education, supervision, and mentorship of trainees and FACEM colleagues
