About the Role
We are looking for Hospital Medical Officers (PGY3/+) to join our critical care stream in 2025, with a focus on Intensive Care Medicine. Residents will have the opportunity to rotate through areas of Critical Care located at our main Hospital in Fitzroy, a number of our partner Hospitals across Melbourne and regional opportunities as well.

Backed by the support of our tertiary Intensive Care Unit, you will learn core ICU knowledge and skills. Over the year you will develop your skills in vascular access, airway management and respiratory, cardiovascular and renal support. You will have the opportunity to meet foundation requirements for entry into the CICM training program and have access to our well-established ICU education program as well as opportunities to participate in research and quality improvement.

Duties:

  • Patient assessment: To recognize and assess critically ill, deteriorating or dying patients and provide clinical care in order of priority
  • Clinical skills: Understanding of and basic competence in advanced life support techniques, with view to supervised learning of more advanced procedures and organ supports
  • Communication: Provide effective and timely verbal and written communication with supervisors and all staff involved in the patient’s care
  • Teamwork: Work effectively and respectfully within a high performing multidisciplinary team


Classifications for this position will range from HM13 - HM18 ($95,829.24 - $146,230.24 per annum).

Duration of appointment: February 2025 - February 2026

Your Contribution

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Hold current Provisional or General AHPRA registration
  • Qualification of PGY3/+
  • Willing to obtain a National Criminal History check
  • Full working rights in Australia

    About The Intensive Care Unit
    The ICU is a 20 bed mixed medical and surgical unit including cardiothoracic and neurosurgical intensive care services admitting 1600 patients per year. Although high in acuity and patient severity of illness, ICU at SVHM maintains high performance and outstanding patient outcomes. The unit has accreditation for 24 months of core training with the College of Intensive Care Medicine including cardiothoracic and neuro-intensive care.
