MAJOR UPDATE for UK & Irish-trained Doctors
General Medicine and General Paediatrics are NOW on Australias Expedited Specialist Registration Pathway.

From 19 January 2026, eligible internationally trained General Physicians and General Paediatricians can apply directly to the Medical Board of Australia without going through a full
Australian college assessment
.

This is a fast-track route to specialist registration and consultant-level practice in Australia.

Who is eligible?
General Paediatrics
  • UK: MRCPCH + CCT (from Aug 2007)
  • Ireland: MRCPI (Paeds) + CSCST (from July 2010)
  • Recent general paediatrics practice required
General Medicine
  • UK: MRCP(UK) + CCT in:
    • General Internal Medicine (from Aug 2007)
    • GIM + Acute Medicine (from Aug 2009)
    • Approved dual CCT pathways (from Aug 2019)
  • Recent general medicine practice required
