National Infection Control and Prevention Nurse Consultant

GenesisCare has an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to join our team in the newly created role of National Infection Control and Prevention Nurse Consultant. As an expert practitioner who, through leadership, facilitates evidence-based practice to identify, prevent or minimise the risk of transmission of infection associated with the provision of care in GenesisCare facilities.

The National Infection Control and Prevention Nurse Consultant will be accountable for the overall leadership of the Infection Prevention and Control program at GenesisCare Australia.

This role is pivotal in maintaining GenesisCare’s commitment to upholding stringent infection prevention and control standards across its diverse range of healthcare facilities and services.

This is a permanent full-time position working nationally.

More specifically, you will:

  • Provide strong, effective leadership, demonstrating the ability to mentor and motivate staff regarding infection control principles.
  • Ensure the provision of quality clinical care, in respect to clinical indicators within ACHS guidelines and Health Care benchmarking, including the liaison with medical practitioners.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of Australian Clinical Health Standards, and quality improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of ACHS Standard 3 (Preventing and Controlling Healthcare associated Infections), including preparation of reports, improvement activities and action planning.
  • Maintain a system for the collection, evaluation, reporting and monitoring of data in relation to hospital associated infections.
  • Review infection control education and mandatory training – in conjunction with the education team.
  • Conduct hand hygiene compliance and successful auditing, including the submission of data to the NHHI and facilitating improvement activities to ensure a high compliance and standard.
  • Review of Infection Control incidents.
  • Oversee staff health management including Immunisation, Occupational exposure, and participation in the management of the Respiratory Protection program.
  • Implement appropriate standard and transmission-based precautions within the organization.
  • Further develop relationships with other craft groups Nationally at GenesisCare.


We're interested in hearing from people who have:

  • A commitment to engage and align with GenesisCare’s purpose and values.
  • Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with a minimum 5 years full time equivalent post qualification experience with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in Infection Prevention and Control with postgraduate nursing qualifications, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by Genesis care.
  • Post graduate studies.
  • Accredited NHHI Hand Hygiene Auditor Educator (or working towards)
  • Previous comprehensive senior nursing experience within a hospital environment
  • Proven experience in managing KPI datasets including monitoring of activity targets, infection rates.
  • Core knowledge of The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) national standards and implementation and monitoring of quality activities to support these standards and the ability to successfully educate and motivate staff.
  • Demonstrated evidence of strategies used to maintain current knowledge of clinical practice advances and research in the relevant specialty.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers, and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs.
  • Understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace.
  • A current driver's license.

Highly desirable for this role:

  • Affiliation and membership with professional IPC related association - at national or international level.
  • Credentialled Infection Prevention and Control professional.
  • Understanding of IPC risks and implications in large and geographically diverse organisations.
  • Experience in undertaking and participating effectively in a team and collaborating across multidisciplinary services.
  • Experience in accreditation processes including preparation and participation.
  • Experience in leading and participating in improvement projects.
  • Experience in development, implementation, and evaluation of IPC education.
  • Computer literacy.
