Registered Nurse - Perioperative Services

Join a founding team for a new eye surgery hospital opening mid-November! We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse – Perioperative Services to provide quality, patient-centred care across clinical and surgical pathways in a modern, state-of-the-art facility.

• Classification: Part-Time (19 hours per week)

• Remuneration: $90,000 FTE equivalent + 12% superannuation (remuneration is calculated pro-rata based on part-time hours)

Key Responsibilities

• Perioperative Care: Deliver nursing care across Anaesthetics, Scrub/Scout, and Recovery in accordance with clinical needs and roster allocations.

• Clinical & Surgical Support: Assist with diagnostic testing, pre-operative assessments, minor operations, intra-operative care, and post-operative recovery.

• Scout Duties: Prepare operating theatres, check equipment/supplies, source instruments outside the sterile field, assist with instrument counts, and monitor overall safety.

• Scrub Duties: Maintain sterile fields, anticipate surgeon needs, manage instrumentation, handle equipment decontamination/sterilisation traceability, and assist with prescribed medication administration.

• Anaesthetics & Recovery: Assist anaesthetists during administration, conduct pre-op checks, monitor emergence from anaesthesia, manage pain, and evaluate discharge criteria.

• Infection Control & Compliance: Follow strict aseptic techniques, maintain clean working environments, document clinical notes legibly, and report incidents in real time.

• Team Leadership & Mentorship: Act as a mentor to team members, assist with training, and support hospital scheduling and quality improvement initiatives (e.g., audits).

Role Prerequisites

• Education: Bachelor of Nursing.

• Registration: Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.

• Experience: Demonstrated perioperative experience in Anaesthetics, Scrub/Scout, and/or Recovery.

• Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of aseptic techniques and infection prevention principles.

• Strong clinical judgement, analytical skills, and proactive problem-solving abilities.

• Leadership, coaching, and team-building capabilities.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills with staff, surgeons, and patients.

• Ability to maintain composure, resilience, and professionalism under pressure.

• Good working knowledge of IT systems and Microsoft Office.
