About the Department
The Social Work Department at SVHM is recognised as a leader in developing and delivering best clinical practice to highly vulnerable groups such as people experiencing homelessness, family violence and addiction. In addition to this, SVHM has a widely respected Aboriginal Health Unit and over 10 years of experience in designing a comprehensive clinical model of responding to Family Violence across the lifespan. The Social Work Department is comprised of 4 teams and covers patients at St Vincent’s Hospital in Fitzroy, St George’s Hospital and Caritas Christi Hospice in Kew. We provide a comprehensive and flexible professional development program, as well as structured supervision and support for clinical decision making. In addition to this, we are able to assist you to develop your skills and plan your career progression via varied clinical rotations in a wide range of practice areas. This may include the opportunity to experience work at different sites within SVHM.

With a strong focus on innovative service delivery and continuous practice improvement, you will also benefit from the knowledge and support of a Grade 4 social worker who is dedicated to research and quality improvement.

About the Role
An opportunity currently exists for a Grade 2 Social Worker to join our team on a permanent part-time basis. This position is located within the Department of Addiction Medicine to provide drug and alcohol counselling to St Vincent’s patients experiencing issues with AOD. To fulfil this role, it is essential that you have a number of years of experience in working with people in the drug and alcohol space.

The successful candidate will have highly developed skills in assessment, counselling, facilitation of groups and the provision of secondary consultation to other social workers in the Social Work Department around AOD. Previous experience in an inpatient hospital setting will be highly regarded. The successful candidate will contribute to positive outcomes for patients via the provision of high-quality social work service to patients using proficient clinical skills, effective communication and collaboration. Supervision of a Grade 1 social worker and/or social work student may be required. The successful candidate will be working in a supportive social work environment and receive regular supervision and professional development.

Classifications for this position will range from SC21 - SC24 ($90,235.60 - $103,724.40) per annum, pro rata for part time.

Duties

  • Use your skills to provide a comprehensive and compassionate service to SVHM patients experiencing AOD issues
  • Liaise with patients, their families and/or carers to co-ordinate, facilitate and communicate patient treatment and outcomes
  • Liaise with other social workers to support their work with patients who have substance misuse issues and support the development of their clinical knowledge and skills
  • Actively participate in quality improvement and research activities
  • Provide supervision and participate in clinical education programs as required
  • Promote and develop positive relationships within the department, wider organisation and with community partners

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor Degree or Qualifying Masters in Social Work
  • Significant social work experience in a drug and alcohol setting is essential
