Speech Pathologist Grade 1 or 2

About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a Grade 1 or 2 Speech Pathologist to join the Home Based Allied Health service. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing high quality, community-based Speech Pathology care to aged care clients who have goals to improve or maintain their functional independence and capacity to remain safely living at home. The role is based at the Kew campus of St George’s Hospital and works as part of a close-knit, multi-disciplinary team. Working at a Grade 2 level, the Speech Pathologist will hold responsibilities for supervision of students and Allied Health Assistants. They may also take on a leadership role within the service, as well as other duties as directed/delegated, including working on Continuous Improvement projects.

Applications from current Grade 2 Speech Pathologists or suitably experienced Grade 1 Speech Pathologists will be considered. Relevant postgraduate qualifications would also be highly regarded. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Speech Pathologist to join a cohesive and progressive integrated team, committed to excellence in clinical practice, research and professional development. Must have, or be currently eligible for, Speech Pathology Australia Membership. The incumbent must also be willing to undergo a Working With Children Check prior to commencement.

Classifications for this position will range from VP3-VP7 Grade 1 ($70,590.00 - $85,872.80) OR VW1-VW4 Grade 2 ($90,235.60 - $103,724.40) per annum.

Duties include

  • Assessing and managing patients in their place of residence in accordance with up-to-date knowledge of departmental clinical policies and guidelines, and currently accepted Speech Pathology Australia professional standards of practice
  • Provision of information and education regarding communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders to patients, carers and other staff as required
  • Communicating assessment and treatment outcomes to other allied health staff via documentation and Home Based Allied Health Program established communication platforms.
  • Clinical supervision and teaching of speech pathology students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, as required (Grade 2 level)
  • Participating in continuous improvement, quality improvement and research activities

Your Contribution

  • Recent experience in and knowledge of Speech Pathology management in a community setting, particularly in the area of Aged Care
  • Eligibility for Speech Pathology Australia Membership
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of and commitment to continuous quality improvement
  • Experience with student supervision
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills

Home Based Allied Health Service

The St Vincent’s Home Based Allied Health team is jointly funded by the Victorian Home and Community Care Program for Younger People (HACC-PYP) and the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP), and focuses on restoring, or maintaining people’s independence, improving functioning and wellbeing to support them to remain living at home. The team includes: Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Podiatry, Dietetics and an Allied Health Assistant. The Home Based Allied Health Service is based at St Georges Health Service (SGHS) and the position requires staff to undertake home visiting duties.

Speech Pathology Department
The Speech Pathology Department is committed to providing high quality Speech Pathology services to patients with communication and swallowing disorders at St. Vincent’s. The Speech Pathology team provides services across the continuum of care, over multiple campuses (St Vincent’s Hospital in Fitzroy, St George’s Health Service in Kew). This position is part of the Home-Based Allied Health Service but will have professional support and supervision through the Speech Pathology department or other Speech Pathologists in the organisation in other programs.
