Ward Clerk - Postnatal Maternity Unit - Full Time (38 hours per week)



We are seeking an enthusiastic and organised ward clerk to join our supportive team of midwives and multidisciplinary staff in the Postnatal Maternity Unit.

This full-time position is essential to the efficient operation of the postnatal ward and plays a key role in ensuring a welcoming, well-coordinated experience for postnatal families.



About the Role

As the ward clerk, you will be the first point of contact for families, visitors, and staff, providing warm, professional, and efficient clerical and access support.



Key responsibilities include:

· Acting as the first point of contact for anyone arriving on the ward

· Managing clerical administration for patients’ episodes of care

· Providing patient liaison and access support

· Supporting the Nurse Unit Manager and ward staff with clerical and administrative functions

· Support patient flow by assisting with patient admissions, transfers and discharge processes

· Answering telephone enquiries and maintaining accurate records using hospital information systems

About You

This role is for you if you are a confident, positive, and people-focused individual who enjoys patient-facing work and thrives in a busy healthcare environment. You are solution-focused, adaptable, and committed to delivering service excellence.



Knowledge & Experience

· Previous customer service experience, including face-to-face, telephone, and written communication

· Previous health clerical experience (desirable)

· Experience with the IBA Patient Management System, or willingness to learn



Skills & Attributes

· Positive and proactive customer service skills

· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to respond compassionately in a hospital setting

· Proven time management and organisational skills

· Proficient computer skills

· Flexibility, responding to new and complex situations by adjusting behaviour appropriately

· Ability to achieve positive outcomes and promote a collaborative team environment

· Demonstrated commitment to managing clinical and clerical administration within a postnatal ward and upholding standards of service excellence
