Oceania University of Medicine exists to help qualified individuals overcome distance, personal, and professional barriers to become highly-trained physicians—committed to life-long learning—with the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes to care for patients; to prevent, treat, and cure disease; and to create and apply new knowledge to improve the health of underserved communities in Oceania and beyond.
Oceania University of Medicine recently gained re-accreditation through 2025. Internationally accredited in late 2010, OUM offers the graduate entry Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in a flexible, student-centred environment. Like many traditional medical schools, OUM uses a problem-based learning approach, linking basic science concepts with the development of clinical reasoning from the very beginning of the program. The program begins with a 12 week introduction to medicine course, followed by e-Foundation Sciences 300-series, then ten body-system based preclinical modules of 6 weeks duration each. There are two additional modules, that are done concurrently with other modules. This means that you would take all of OUM's preclinical curriculum online, without the expense and inconvenience of leaving home!
The pre-clinical modules are followed by 72 weeks of clinical modules (in 12, 8 or 4 week blocks) which are taken in teaching hospitals locally, Interstate and Internationally. One of these modules at least (4weeks) must be taken in Samoa.

OUM has more than 230 students currently enrolled (including Australia, NZ, USA, Canada, and Samoa) and 120+ Alumni, from various backgrounds including nursing, midwifery, paramedicine, physiotherapy, podiatry, pharmacy, psychology, biomedicine, radiation therapy, chiropractic, dentistry, law, engineering and accounting.
Graduate Entry Requirements: The MD (Doctor of Medicine) degree requires that a student have a Bachelor's degree with at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. GAMSAT may be waived depending on your background and experience. Your clinical education and healthcare experience indicate that you are capable of doing well in this environment. A science major is not required.
Intakes are twice a year - January and July.
New - 12-week Introduction to Medicine - Students entering in January 2021 will be required to complete the new non-credit 12-week Introduction to Medicine medical school prep course before commencing the basic sciences. Although the prep course, which begins after new student orientation, does not appear on transcripts, students will be required to take pre- and post- exams and score 70% or higher in the post-exam to continue into the medical curriculum. The pre- and post-exams measure medical school readiness and should help students identify strengths and weaknesses, learning styles, etc.
