  • Vaccine rollout scheduled for Tasmania

    Author: AAP

Tasmania's COVID-19 vaccination program will begin next week in Hobart, first targeting frontline health workers, quarantine and border staff.

Appointments have been scheduled for the capital city first, with other parts of the state joining the program in March, Health Minister Sarah Courtney said on Wednesday.
"Vaccination staff at the hospital have been undertaking final training and exercises to prepare for the delivery," the minister noted.
"Aged and disability care residents and staff will also be vaccinated in the coming weeks.

"Once the early phases of the roll out are completed, the vaccination program will be expanded to include other groups of the community."
Northwest Tasmania experienced an early coronavirus outbreak linked to the Ruby Princess cruise ship, but has retained cautious border measures and kept case numbers low.

On Tuesday the state expelled a Victorian woman following "an incident" at a Launceston hotel where she was quarantining.
The 38-year-old failed to obey a direction of an emergency management worker, was arrested and subsequently faced court, police said.
"The woman was directed to return to Victoria and left Tasmania," a statement said.
The woman's criminal charge will be mentioned in court again on March 30.
