  • Hospital charged over aged care resident chair failure

    Author: AAP

A Victorian hospital has been charged after an aged care resident fractured her rib while sitting on a malfunctioning reclining chair.

The 93-year-old resident fell when the back of the chair detached as a staff member tried to move it in October 2021.

The woman died a week later.

WorkSafe has charged Benalla Health with failing to ensure persons other than employees were not exposed to risks to their health and safety.

It's alleged the aged care provider failed to ensure chairs used to transport residents were regularly assessed for safety.
