The Benchmarque Group is excited to announce the launch of our Wound Management Program.  The Wound Management Program (Complex Issues and Management) offers successful participants a Nationally Accredited Qualification in Wound Management. The program is the result of nearly 2 years of collaboration between La Trobe University, World of Wounds and The Benchmarque Group.

The course is now available for delivery and we are excited to have delivered the FIRST program in Melbourne at impetusTM in Coburg on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th March 2011. The Benchmarque Group have had the opportunity to deliver a number of our Nationally Accredited qualification programs for Practice and Primary health nurses in the Northern region of Melbourne and have benefited from a strong relationship with impetusTM. impetusTM are strong supporters of accredited training for registered and enrolled nurses and have taken on a leadership role in their commitment to workforce development.
impetusTM has demonstrated its capacity to engage local health professionals, encouraging and supporting their professional development.  The Nationally Accredited Wound Management Program is a course designed to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies required for nurses and relevant allied healthcare workers in the prevention, assessment and management of complex wounds. The program covers topics including:

- Understanding skin, infection issues and hand washing
- Normal wound healing physiology and factors influencing wound healing
- Known physiological differences between acute and chronic wounds
- Understanding factors that may have an impact on normal healing physiology
- Identifying what the wound tissues require in order to restore the correct healing pathway
- Reviewing wound products within Australia
- Skin tears and skin abrasions
- Superficial partial thickness burn management
- Pressure injuries and ulceration of lower legs
- Wound assessment and wound classification and documentation

In addition to the lecture and theory, the program is supported with half a day of practical wound management application of a comprehensive range of wound management products and dressings.  The response from our first course was fantastic! We were delighted with the level of enthusiasm from the course participants. There seems to be a growing number of wound management workshops available and it is great to see the growing recognition of the value of nationally accredited programs.

Nationally accredited courses offer participants the opportunity to receive a qualification and add the skills of wound management immediately to their scope of practice. This program also represents a unique collaboration between Latrobe University, World of Wounds and us, creating a clear learning and development pathway through an accredited training program and a University based Post Graduate model. The program gives the participant the nationally accredited units of competency HLTEN506A Apply principles of wound management in the clinical environment and HLTEN406A Undertake basic wound care.
